Job Description

Benchmark Manager

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Global Data team at Mercer Investments, a Marsh business. This role will be based in Boston. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

The Benchmark Manager will define and oversee a benchmark management process that meets the needs of stakeholders across all functions and regions at Mercer IS. The role is part of the Data Solutions Team within Operations which is responsible for data strategy and vision, ensuring that initiatives and practices align with broader business objectives. This involves the coordination of multiple stakeholder teams, including Portfolio Management, Operations, Client, Product, Compliance, Technology, as well as third party service providers and vendors. The team is also responsible for undertaking and implementing business-wide initiatives and efficiency projects.

Candidates will ideally have experience in project management and experience with performance and benchmark data solutions. Reporting to the Global Investment Data and Performance Solutions Leader, the role will be dynamic and diverse, requiring an individual with strong project management, organizational, collaboration and communication skills. A background in Asset Management Operations with knowledge of benchmark usage across the ecosystem will serve well in thought-partnering with our investment, client and performance teams.

We Will Count On You To:
  • Collaborate to understand the benchmark needs of stakeholders across the firm, including client, investment, compliance, performance and product teams.
  • Partner with Global Data team colleagues and lead the development and delivery of a global benchmark data strategy that adheres to data governance, management, and quality principles.
  • Implement workflows and SLAs for benchmark set-up and change management while introducing tools that enforce consistency and reduce manual effort.
  • Develop daily quality control checks that promote trust of benchmark data and proactively communicate any data issues to stakeholders while working with third party providers on resolution and trend analysis; research data anomalies tracing through their lifecycle.
  • Partner with Market Data to define relevant metrics and deliver dashboards to monitor index and benchmark usage and costs to the relevant stakeholder leaders; eliminate duplication and maximize regional & global licensing.
  • Act as an ambassador for a data-driven culture at Mercer, promoting the importance of data in decision-making, risk management and operational efficiency.
What You Need To Have:
  • 8-10 years of experience in the financial services industry, with direct exposure to investment operations & data workflow; could be a technology professional with strong business acumen, or the reverse.
  • Familiarity with data ecosystems in investment management, particularly in relation to benchmark use cases (fund & client reporting, performance attribution, risk oversight, portfolio management, etc.).
  • Experience collaborating across functions and/or geographies and envisioning an efficient workflow that leans into modern data and technology capabilities.
  • Demonstration of strong communication and technical skills through working with data.
  • Enthusiasm for solving problems through data, technology and connecting the dots.
What Makes You Stand Out?
  • Experience contributing ideas to strategic visions and roadmaps for business change.
  • Exposure to benchmark solutions across the asset classes including customization for complex strategies and knowledge of index vendors and methodologies; experience with LDI strategy benchmarks a plus.
  • Proven track record of collaborating with Performance, Investment and Technology teams to develop solutions that address evolving benchmark needs.
  • Knowledge and effective use of data querying and analysis tools such as Python & AI.
Why Join Our Team:
  • We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders.
  • We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients and communities.
  • Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities, as well as benefits and rewards to enhance your well-being.
