Employee Type: Various | Recruiting Start Date: 03-04-2026 | Recruiting End Date: Open Until Filled Job Summary: Serves as Hoa Hookipa, an educator, storyteller, and bridge-builder, responsible for blending retail excellence, cultural education, and community connection to ensure the store is a living embodiment of the E Ola! experience. This role shares culturally grounded moolelo and product knowledge to educate and connect customers with Hawaiian values, identity, and practices. Contributes to immersive experiences and builds pilina with kakoo through attentive service and engagement. Supports workshops, pop-ups and community events, along with daily operations including sales, merchandising, order fulfillment, inventory, and in-store and online environments. Essential Responsibilities Customer and Community Experience Serve as a cultural experience ambassador and bridge between haumana, ohana, alumni, and kaiaulu by sharing culturally grounded moolelo and product knowledge. Provide service that connects customers to Hawaiian values, identity, and practices, turning every interaction into a meaningful learning opportunity. Build pilina with all kakoo through warm, attentive service, encouraging repeat visits and participation in future experiences. Assist in coordinating logistics with internal departments, student programs, and community partners for events, workshops, storytelling sessions, athletics tie-ins, and community activations, helping position the store as a movement hub. Assist in delivering interactive experiences and maintaining a clean, organized, and visually inviting store environment. Provide feedback from frontline interactions to inform, refine and contribute to product design, selection, collections, seasonal releases, and storytelling. Support co-branded and community-based product initiatives, ensuring offerings meet customer needs and reflect cultural values and narratives. Participate in cultural training and ongoing professional development to strengthen knowledge, skills, and cultural understanding. Operations Assist with in-store, online, and event-based sales, supporting timely and smooth order fulfillment, including packaging, shipping, exchanges, returns, and local delivery. Support daily store operations including opening/closing, cash handling, merchandising, and maintaining visually engaging displays. Manage ordering, inventory, and distribution of school merchandise and supplies, including uniforms, department materials, consignment items, and special event apparel, ensuring timely delivery and proper tracking in support of Operations, KS Publications, and Athletics. Process and reconcile transactions, including cash, credit cards, financial aid credits, consignment sales, and system updates for pricing or quantity discrepancies. Assist with tracking incoming/outgoing shipments, stocking, and distribution, inspecting merchandise for accuracy and damage, and ensuring inventory is organized and accessible. Help maintain inventory accuracy through counts, reconciliations, and reporting across physical and digital systems. Assist with purchase requisitions and orders using internal systems, and proof graphics for soft and hard goods. Maintain the online store by designing merchandise layouts, ensuring all product information—including titles, descriptions, images, inventory, and sizing—is accurate, consistent, and up to date. Support social media efforts by promoting products, sharing moolelo, and highlighting store events, integrating cultural education and community engagement. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma, or equivalent. Minimum 3 years of experience in retail, customer service, hospitality, or related experience. Valid driver’s license. Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to build rapport and connect with customers. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with retail operations, including POS systems and basic cash handling. Proficient in business software, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and Windows applications. Adaptable to changing priorities and workplace situations. Proven organizational skills, and attention to detail. Self-motivated and able to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Proven ability to multitask effectively in a dynamic and evolving workplace. Flexible and adaptable to changing work processes and business needs. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business, Retail Management, Education, Cultural Studies, or a related field. Knowledgeable in retail operations and e-commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify), including POS systems. Experience in cultural or educational programs with engaging storytelling skills. Familiarity with Hawaiian language, culture, and values. Prior involvement in community-driven or nonprofit initiatives. Physical Requirements Frequently stand and walk, write by hand, and lift, carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. Frequently stand/walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully. Occasionally sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light/fine manipulation, talk or hear. Working Conditions Work is primarily conducted in a retail environment, with occasional activities in non-standard or off-site locations. Work schedule is flexible to support retail operations, events, and community programs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
