At Houston Methodist, the Locksmith position is responsible for a variety of locksmith duties, requiring special training. This position is capable of repairing all types of locks and locksets, rekey cylinders, configure keyway systems, work within a complex key system and maintain key records in a key management system. The Locksmith position is proficient in all locksmith related duties and interacts with various clients, coworkers and staff effectively when completing tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post‑secondary education, etc.)
EXPERIENCE
Three years of experience as a locksmith in a healthcare or related environment
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
PREFERRED
Licensed Locksmith Registered locksmith
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on‑going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations
Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security
Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co‑workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles
Ability to operate assorted hand tools, both electrical and mechanical. A working knowledge of machinery used to create keys, i.e., cutter/grinder, gauges and other peripheral devices related to lock and key creation
Ability to work with commercial grade locks and keys, as well as several other brand name commercial components preferred
Working knowledge of Microsoft products (software)
Working knowledge of key management/tracking systems or other related software, i.e., KeyWizard software and Code Source key coding software
Demonstrates ability to access information both in the department and within the hospital system to support the department

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Installs, repairs and maintains all types of locks and locksets.
Rekeys locks, maintains accurate record keeping and understands locks/locksets and their functions.
Assists in design of master key systems; participates in design and construction meetings as necessary to assist with key designs and standards.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintains an adequate inventory of related hardware, parts and other supplies, in order to fill requests and requisitions.
Prioritizes work activities and maintains set timelines as necessary to optimize response time on work order trouble tickets (e.g., average time to close tickets).
Follows safety standards, policies and procedures established for the department and hospital and conducts all procedures accordingly.
Uses tools and equipment to perform the job in an efficient, effective and safe manner.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Completes all assigned work orders and dispatch tickets accurately with appropriate key management/tracking system, within the established guidelines of the department.
Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies. Self‑motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks, minimizing incidental overtime.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Participates in department projects. Assumes responsibility for growth and development by participating in in‑services programs and continuing education.
Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development as a locksmith. Generates and communicates new ideas and suggestions that improve quality or services.
