Job Description

Mission Health, based in Asheville, NC, is seeking a Nurse Extern PRN to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. As a Nurse Extern, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, supporting the delivery of safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care across a variety of clinical settings. This PRN role is ideal for nursing students who are eager to apply classroom and clinical knowledge in a real-world hospital environment, while building confidence and competence as they progress toward an RN role. In this position, you will assist the healthcare team with daily patient care activities, including obtaining vital signs, assisting with mobility and hygiene, supporting nutritional needs, and helping to maintain a clean, safe, and healing environment for patients and families. You will participate in admission and discharge processes as delegated, accurately document care in the electronic medical record, and promptly report changes in patient condition to the supervising RN. Working closely with experienced nurses, providers, and interdisciplinary team members, you will observe and practice evidence-based care while strengthening your clinical judgment, time management, and prioritization skills. The Nurse Extern PRN will collaborate with the care team to reinforce patient education, support comfort measures, and uphold Mission Health’s commitment to dignity, respect, and culturally sensitive care. You will follow established policies and procedures, adhere to infection prevention and safety standards, and actively contribute to a culture of quality improvement. This role requires strong communication skills, professionalism, and a commitment to teamwork in a fast-paced environment.
